By cutting an opening through to the front hall, the small dining area gained breathing room; an existing mirror on the end-wall was retained to enhance the feeling of space. To better integrate it into the adjoining great room, the dining area was dressed with the same scraped hickory floors, knotty alder trim, and warm complementary tones used throughout. For their own use, the owners can add cushions to the easy-maintenance wooden chairs chosen to stand up to rental use.
