Portfolio » ’70s Vail Ski Condo Updated with Rustic Comfort
Design Goal
Update, upgrade, and visually open up the clients’ 1978 Vail, Colorado, ski condominium with higher-quality yet durable materials. Boost the condo’s appeal to potential renters in a competitive rental market while offering an inviting vacation refuge and part-time retirement home for the owners.
Challenges
While Gracious Living Interior Design previously had the benefit of on-site visits while assisting the clients with design changes to their main residence, renovation of the Vail condo needed to be accomplished “sight unseen.” Working from photographs and precise floor plans and measurements provided by a detail-oriented, engineer-client, Gracious Living was able to develop a warm, updated look that’s a perfect fit for the homeowners’ space, tastes, and budget.
Designer’s Role
Gracious Living helped clients choose a new look that is warm, inviting, and upscale, yet durable enough to share with renters. To accomplish the transformation of the featureless, “builder’s grade,” 1970s home into an inviting lodge-like retreat, spaces were opened up and knotty alder beams, trim, doors, and cabinetry added throughout. The emerging sense of warmth and comfort were completed through warm colors, distressed and textural finishes, and rustic hardware and accessories.
The Result
A warm, appealing, high-end ski lodge home that’s now in demand as a rental throughout the season while providing the owners with a beautiful, part-time retreat for relaxing and entertaining.
