Design Goal
Personalize and upgrade a newly built spec home for an on-the-go business woman and her three college- and high school-age children. Incorporate some existing furniture and rugs to capture a sophisticated look that reflects the client’s well-traveled aesthetic. Fashion a residence that works as a personal retreat for a busy woman, an inviting home for her children, and a gracious setting for entertaining.
Challenges
With only four and a half months to complete the project in time for a holiday house warming, colors and fabrics had to be selected and all remaining furniture sourced from products that were in stock or could be bought off the floor of stores and showrooms. Many existing furnishings required repair, refinishing, and/or re-upholstering. Custom drapery and bedding had to be designed and made.
Designer’s Role
Develop a color scheme and theme that captures the client’s personal energy and love of bold colors, expressing it through paint, fabrics, furnishings, accessories, lighting, upgraded moldings, and new lower-level flooring—all in time for the holiday party.
