Inspired by a community swimming pool where he’d once worked, the home’s owner created an oversized, curbless, walk-in shower. Gracious Living erased any gym-like allusions by wrapping the space in warm-toned porcelain tiles (their smooth surface is easier to maintain than stone), brought in natural light through a skylight, and included a corner bench and recessed storage for soap and shampoo. The tub’s gold and black theme is repeated on the three shower fixtures and a black “matte” borders a raised relief tile “picture” that depicts a variety of natural themes and adds a decorative element to an otherwise bare wall. A nearby heated towel bar eases the transition to daily pursuits.
