Portfolio » Remodeled 1940s Ranch House
Design Goal
Create a warm, inviting, comfortable home with an open feeling yet well-defined spaces. Incorporate soft colors and take advantage of expansive views of Washington’s Fidalgo Bay and Cascade Mountains.
Challenges
Transform a maze of small rooms in a two-level, bowling alley-shaped, 1940s ranch house into an open, functional space to serve cooking, casual living, and more formal dining and entertaining needs.
Designer’s Role
Working closely with the client, construction crew, finish carpenter, and suppliers, Gracious Living planned and decorated the entire home, including space planning and reconfiguration, interior appearance, materials selection, cabinetry, furnishings, and accessories.
The Result
Soft colors and rich textures subtly define a multitude of functions while creating a sense of spaciousness and incorporating the expansive views from this modestly sized home. Raising the ceiling to the roof level and adding gracious moldings and details, cove lighting, and gently curving lines results in a feeling of casual elegance.
