Design Goal
Gracious Living was invited to help provide a finished, coordinated, and inviting look and feel to a large home being built on south-facing, cliffside acreage with dramatic views of Washington’s Rosario Strait and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Challenges
Flexibility was required on two fronts: finding custom solutions to accommodate the curving walls of the crescent-shaped home, designed to take advantage of panoramic views; and complementing existing design decisions already made. The home’s owners, an engineer and artist, had invested significant energy and expertise in planning their new home and wished to play an active role in its finishing touches.
Designer’s Role
Gracious Living was invited to help pull together and complement the efforts of the home’s custom builder, involved owners, and cabinetry company. Designer Molly McIntosh provided space planning, hard surface materials selection (inside and out), area rugs, and a whole-home color palette.
Result
Carefully listening to and incorporating the owners’ tastes and preferences, Gracious Living helped the imaginative new home come alive with a warm neutral color palette accented by the owners’ favorite greens and blues. Hard surface materials were chosen with an eye toward complementing existing selections while blending the home’s soft modern aesthetic with the owners’ more traditional taste in furnishings. Textures, warm neutral and soft accent colors, and subtle Asian elements add visual interest, personality, and livability.
