Design Goal
Create a comfortable yet durable year-round home for an extended family with relaxed, traditional tastes. Balance the winter landscape of Washington’s Cascade mountains with warm interior colors and textures.
Challenges
Accommodate three functions—dining, formal living, and casual living/TV viewing—plus a connecting walkway in a long, crescent-shaped main room (approximately 40 feet long, 20 feet wide in the center, and narrowing to 14 feet wide on each end).
Designer’s Role
Work with client and existing architectural plans to select furnishings and materials to bring function and warmth to the soaring space.
The Result
A warm environment and main-floor living for empty nesters, with plenty of room for visiting children and grandchildren.
